Payment Policy
Last updated: October 2, 2026
This policy follows your payment through the five places you'll see it: the product page, the checkout, your confirmation email, your card statement, and, if you return something, your statement again. It applies to every order placed with Opera LLC through operanewyork.com.
1. On the product page
The price shown is in US dollars and is the price you pay for the item. Shipping is free, so nothing is added for delivery. Sales tax, where it applies, is added at checkout based on your shipping address (New York State exempts most clothing and footwear priced under $110 per item from state sales tax; whether local tax applies depends on your county, and the checkout calculates this automatically). If an order ships from a fulfillment center outside the United States, import duties and fees are paid by us. Nothing is collected at the door.
2. At checkout
Payment methods. The methods available to you are shown at checkout and may include major credit and debit cards, digital wallets such as Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and PayPal. If a method isn't shown at checkout, it isn't available for your order. We don't accept checks, bank transfers, cash on delivery or payment by email.
When you're charged. Payment is taken when you place the order. Your card issuer or wallet may show it as a pending authorization for a few hours before it posts.
Discount codes. Enter them at checkout; they can't be applied afterward. One code per order unless the promotion says otherwise.
Shipping Protection. An optional add-on at checkout that covers loss or damage in transit with a free replacement. Its fee is non-refundable once the order has shipped, including on a later return; it is refunded only if the order is canceled within 5 minutes of being placed.
Security. Checkout runs on Shopify over an encrypted connection. Card details go directly to the payment provider, which is certified to the PCI DSS standard, and never reach our systems; we don't store full card numbers and will never ask for card details by email. Your bank may ask you to approve the payment in its app; that's the issuer's own check, not something we control.
3. In your confirmation email
The confirmation email, sent within minutes of checkout, lists the items, the amount charged and your order number. The order number is what we need for any payment question, so keep the email. If you've been charged and no confirmation arrives within an hour, check your spam folder and that the email address you entered is correct, then email support@operanewyork.com with the date and amount of the charge; we'll locate the order or confirm that no order exists and the authorization will drop off.
4. On your card statement
The charge. It's normally identified with our store name. If you don't recognize a charge, email us with the date and amount before contacting your bank; we'll identify it for you within one business day.
Two charges. When a payment is declined and retried, the first attempt can appear as a pending authorization alongside the successful one. Only one is a real charge; the pending one is released by your bank, usually within 3 to 5 business days. If both have posted after 5 business days, send us the statement lines and we'll refund the duplicate.
A declined payment. Checkout tells you right away, and no order is created. The usual causes are a mistyped card number or expiry date, a billing address that doesn't match the card, a daily limit, or the issuer blocking an unfamiliar online purchase. Check the details, or try another method; if it still fails, your bank can tell you why, since the decline reason isn't shared with us.
5. Back on your statement: refunds
A refund always goes back to the payment method used for the order; we can't refund to a different card or account. Approved returns are refunded within 7 business days of approval, and canceled orders within 7 business days of cancellation. Your bank typically needs another 3 to 5 business days to show the credit, and a refund to a canceled card is redirected by the issuer to the replacement card or account. If nothing has appeared after 10 business days from our refund confirmation, email us and we'll send you the refund reference to take to your bank.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as payment methods or the law change. The current version is on this page with the date above, and changes don't apply to orders already placed.
